2-105 grille again

OK,I want to make sure I'm safe in assuming the grille from the earlier 2-105 without headlights in the grille will work in the later one with headlights. What is the real difference? Is it just that the 30-3371344 late one has the emblem held on with screws instead of being molded in to the plastic?

I took the one off mine to try to patch it with fiberglass. The number is stamped in the back side. It isn't the number it should be according to Agcopartsbook. It says 30-3141179 and has the WHITE lettering molded in to the plastic. In the book, that's for before serial 276762. My serial number is 293141 and should have that later 30-3371344 grille. Mine has the headlights in the grille. Agco parts shows the one I have, used without headlights.

Here's the kicker. I was doing another search and found a place that supposedly has one of those later 30-3371344 grilles. I didn't want to call them, find out they have it,pay God knows what for it,then find out it's different.

I'm totally confused.

That's my thought, but I wondered if anybody knew 100% sure that they'd interchange and that they haven't just mixed up some numbers on the Agcoparts site.
Mine looks identical to the one on the brochure.

The first White literature showed the 105 with headlights in the grille. The first tractors were shipped without headlights in their grille and as a dealer, we were told it was an overheating problem and the lights could not be put there. I could never see any changes made to "cool" them down, but they started coming with lights in the grill.

It just doesn't look so good from the other side. The big chunk out of the grille shroud makes it look like a beauty queen with a tooth missing.

Do you think then, that the only difference is that the emblem is held on the one by screws?

I see you only have one fuel tank. Don't see many of those. My 2-85 was ordered that way to by original owner. Nice tractor though!

My 2-105 is the first silver tractor my dealer sold, February 10, 1975, no headlights in grill, yes overheating was an issue, a new fan blade was installed and helped, but a straight pipe with sides removed helped more, lots cooler in cab too.

Apparently that emblem is the only difference. I talked to Matt at Worthington again with the other part number and he said they're interchangeable. The place that was supposed to have had one didn't. They were an Agco dealer and the parts guy there confirmed they were interchangeable too. It widens the search, but I'm no closer to finding one than I've ever been. I'm on a lot of waiting lists.

I looked for a printing date on that brochure, but couldn't find one. I'm sure somebody could probably decipher the numbers that are on it if they knew how.

Found one. My exuberance is tempered a little by the price, but, what are you gonna do? It's a sellers market on those.

Somebody had mentioned the Tractor Doctor before, but the number they gave me was a fax number. All the other places that I had to try, that place just fell between the cracks I guess. I went back to that old post today and found the name again. I looked up the right number and called them. They had three. The price was the same on all of them,so I told them to send the best one.
I'll post another picture of the tractor when it gets here and I get it on.

I just found something else kinda different about this one. I had the hood side off, wiring up the baler and planter monitors. I wanted to track down the manifold heater and see if there was power to it. It doesn't have the regular electric heater on it. It's got a thermo start like the 1365 has. The wife was walking by,so I told her to get up in the cab. I got the test light and checked it while she held the button. It lit up. I told her to hold it. I heard the darned thing ignite.
My 1365 is good down to about -15 to -18F with nothing more than the thermo start.

My 85 has a manifold preheater and a plug in heater same as my 135 series 3. My 85 will start fine on its own down to 30, but not my 2-88, that one is really cold blooded. My 85 is a '76 model, first year with lights on grill.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but I have a 2-105 that has the chrome pealing from the shroud around the grill. What are my options, replacement or have it re-chromed? Cost?
