After changing the oil in the rear end..

I have a 1650. I just changed the 80-90 in my rear end. I was putting the plate back on that is around the gear shift. The two bolts that hold it down toward the dash both stripped when I put them back in. They came out just fine. When I put them back in I threaded it in by hand then finished them with a ratchet. Once I felt some strain on the ratchet they both stripped. They were far from tight. My question is do those bolts do anything else other than hold that panel down? Or am I in trouble? IV never torn into an Oliver before so I'm not sure. Thanks.

Those two bolts are through the platform and housing. There are about five different lengths on the housing bolts so someone could have mixed them up. Those two should be 2-1/4 long. Try a 1/4 or 1/2 inch longer bolt. I thought a couple were stripped on my 1550 but after I ran a tap in all of them they're OK.
