adding a turbo to an 1850

Hi

I'd like to add a turbo to an 1850.
I know it has been done lots of times.
What set ups work the best?
Can it fit under the hood?

Thanks
Lloyd

I think the fuel tank's in the way. I know one Oliver mechanic at a dealership who cut the tank and welded it back together to make room.

Here is a link to what we did with photos of ours. I wouldn't recommend factory pistons with a turbo. The ring lands are only aluminum and can break fairly easy. I see that I posted the pics in 2008 and the engine is still going strong and runs great.

Use the 2-105 manifolds, they make it look factory. You may have to drill new holes in the manifolds, depending on the year. We've done 2, both successful. I would take the time and put 2-105 pistons in it as well. I had the fuel tank cut down, but maybe the 1650 tank is the better option. Your air cleaner setup will have to be customized, but even after all the work, its a great setup. Have your injection pump adjusted. Make sure its got the fuel it needs. 140hp is a nice setting for this setup, it will run cool and never give you a problem.
