2-105 transmission pressure

I have a Red Stripe 2-105 that has and is giving me fits with the trans. pressure light coming on. When working it in the summer it would come on if engine RPM would drop below 1800. Took it to dealer and they checked the pump and replaced some seals in the transmission and it was OK after that. Now, about 3 years later, it's doing it again. Could it be do to thinning of the oil due to a leak from the over/under shift into the transmission? According to my owners manual the recommended oil for the transmission is Universal trans/hydraulic. It has 80/90 trans oil in it now as was recommended in the Oliver's before this. The mechanic said that is what I should use as "they don't like the thinner oil". Has any one had this problem and what did you do to cure it? Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know about running gear lube in them. That might not be the best thing for the clutch packs. I do know they went from using automatic transmission fluid to using a HyTran/HyGuard type oil because the ATF was too thin and they were taking bearings out. Mine light kept coming on in my Series 3 2-135 two years ago. The spider gears were eating themselves and kept putting shavings in to the relief valve on that one. I could take the relief valve out, start it up and shut it right back off so it blew the crud out, then put it back together and it'd be OK for five or ten minutes, but that one ended up having to be completely rebuilt.

Just to clarify, I am talking about the trans/rear end not the O/U shift. I use universal trans/hydraulic fluid in the O/U unit.

Oh,OK. You're loosing pressure in the trans lube pump then? You've changed the sending unit?

rrlund is correct on where to start. You need to check the lube pressure with a gauge to see if you are actually low on pressure. If not, you either have a bad sender or a possible intermittent short in the wire from the gauge to the light. If pressure is low, and I do not off hand know what it should be, you will have to get farther into the transmission to find out what the cause is. Be sure you have no external leaks either by the filter or at the front of the transmission at the bevel pinion cap or trunnion support. Secondly, have you removed the transmission drain plug that has the screen on it which would go around the lube pump intake tube to be sure it has not been plugged? I know the later 2-105 tractors were changed to the universal trans./hyd. oil but I don't know of a serial number break. Does the light come on only at idle or at any speed; or only when the oil gets warm? Also, are you the original owner of the tractor? If not, one does not know what may or may not have been done in this area. If you are running the thicker 80/90 and the light comes on I would get it checked out so you don't seize the transmission input shaft. For example, in the early 80's we had a newer 2-105 using the universal trans./hyd. oil that seized an input shaft. After checking the lube system out we found the bypass valve spring was never installed from the factory. I can't remember if the customer had a pressure light issue or not.
