looking for opinions on where to buy green paint for an 1855 , trcator supply paint is just to dark for Oliver green ( meadow green) looks awlful , there JD green matches better , was thinking of using JD green mixed with a splash of there dark oliver green to get the color i want , mixed my own paint for a Farmall Regular & everyone wanted to know where i got paint to match that good ,but havent let the recipe out yet ( he he ) , anyway whats you guys input , but keep in mind im not paying $200 a gal. for dupont to mix it to spec. , this is a farm tractor not a musium piece to look at.

I've been happy with paint from AGCO. Correct color, doesn't fade out, durable. I don't know what they charge now but it was considerably less than name brand automotive paint when I did my 880 a few years back.

I know what you mean. I've been using rattle can paint from TSC as I'm doing repairs. First can was Valspar and looked real good, color-wise. Now they sell Majik brand and it's darker, closer to JD green. Doesn't dry as well either.

in reguards to majik paint , i used that to paint the Farmall reg. i just did , heres my opinion v val-spar , 1st had to change thinner from naptha to paint thinner , not interchangeable so all my old supplies on hand are worthless but thinner is cheaper , also because i do alot of restore work all my old left over paint in now junk because it wont mix with new majic paint, ive found that with either brand paint you need to add plenty of hardener to get a good finish , & now i use recommended thinner / acivator for paint not just plain thinner / naptha , dry time on last job was great , dry to touch in couple hours , could wrench on it the next day with care , tractor was painted in garage heated with wood stove held around 70 for 1 day befor & after painting to keep iron warm , done this in Jan so it was cold here , but i will complain that the primmer settles really bad , needs lots of mixing , also had problems clogging paint gun nossel with new magic paint , never had that with val-spar . i guess all & all its just a learning curve using new type of paint but i liked val-spar better

The last few I've painted, I've used VanSickle paint. It isn't as good as Agco, much better than Majik, and a lot less expensive than the last Agco paint I bought. I used Valspar on some smaller items a few years ago and liked it as well. VanSickle is harder to get around here now as my local store went under, but I've ordered it online through some sites. I use a heavy dose of hardener, thin with Naptha, and it matches pretty well. Just DO NOT use their clear coat as it will not take gasoline at all. Their paint with hardener will handle it ok.

I prefer Agco, but with the price increase a few years ago, it became cost prohibitive for my restore to work tractors. So, that being said, I'd look for VanSickle.

Agco Meadow Green is good paint if your not going the expensive route. If you're doing rattle cans, you can top coat with Agco. Underneath I put on a few coats of Rustoleum JD green equipment paint for about $4 / can from Home Depot -- decent paint with good gloss and hard finish. Saved a bit.
