2-105 air conditioner

I found a nice 2-105,fairly low hours, but the dealer that has it says it came from the factory without air. It is a factory cab though. Just thinking out loud here. Would that cab be made to accommodate AC if a person was to put together new and used parts, from say maybe Worthington and A&I? How about the heater core? Would all of those be made for heat and air or would it take a different core? I'm thinking maybe used compressor and condenser, core too if it had to be changed, new lines and dryer.
The dealer himself said it's a darned shame that tractor doesn't have air,as nice as it is.

What about some aftermarket add on AC system? Is there such a thing or were they just a thing of the past for trucks and what not?

There are after market kits for JD,s with the SGB, so I,m sure there will be some for a White as well. You could swap parts from an A/C cab tractor, but it is a lot of work.

If it is a tractor you are going to use a lot I would buy new lines and condenser and evaporator along with expansion valve and drier for a 2-105 from a short line place like A&I or A P Air. In the long run you will have far fewer problems and you will get a compressor and other parts that are made for 135 Freon. There also is a service bulletin out that says when you add air on a 2-105 you need to change the engine fan for one made for an air cond. tractor. Non air tractors used a smaller fan. You want the condenser that goes in front of the radiator. Use the parts look up on agco parts book to see what all you need. I would get the mount kit to install new style rotary compressor on it.

Early 105's had the condenser on the back of the cab and used electric motors with fans to blow through. Later machines had the condenser in front of the radiator. What is the machines serial number? Also if you can put a bigger evaporator in it will cool better with R134a then the units designed for R12.

I have a 2-85 that my dad bought new without air. A year later he had an after market unit installed made by Eagle Air. Also have a 2-150 that I bought used that had Eagle Air in it when I got it.

Doesn't matter now anyway. I found one this morning with air. Too darned cold today to prove that it works, but it's the same dealer that I got my 2-135 from and he said it worked last fall alright. I got the clutch to kick in and out a few times despite being so cold,so I'm inclined to believe him. Nice tractor for the most part. Just over 4400 hours, late 79 model. The grill shroud is broke on one side and one arm is gone off the seat, but the paint and cab interior are half way decent for the age. The tires are like new, still got the rubber from the mold between the cleats. They're 16.9s and my duals on the 2-135 are 18.4s,but it's got the axle dual hubs on it. Maybe I can find a pair of pressed steel for it. Doesn't matter too much. I wanted it mostly for haying anyway.

I would buy all the OEM parts from a salvage yard including the fan. Then have a good AC guy update the compressor and filter/dryer etc to modern standards and you should be good for years. Run the AC frequently in the winter to dry the cab air and keep the freon in good shape. These are nice tractors, grab it.

It's not a hard install. I do a lot of ac work. Use a sanden compressor the front mount condensor don't worry about the controls a toggle switch will be fine. The blower and mounting brackets will have to come from a salvage yard. Get NEW lines. The evaporator on that thing is bigger than it needs to be by far. If it is working correctly you could ,albeit inefficiently, hang a beef carcas in the cab for a week with no spoilage. Use new components salvage blower and mounting I would advise ap as a parts sourse and you will have no issues for years.

I have a little different issue. My son bought a 2-105 very cheap but needs work so a good learning/teaching tool for us.

Plan on an AC, engine, Over Under, brakes, PTO and clutch rebuild, just to get it into top condition.

I was reading the AC comments by jr 1983 and noted that it was suggested to upgrade from the York compressor to the "Sanden" compressor. Why? Since my York is seized it will need replacing.

I need more clarification what he means by forget about the controls and just use a toggle switch?

Is that to turn the whole system on and off? No control over the amount of cooling by the thermostat? No fan speed control, or was he meaning to only turn the compressor on and off?

Probably a silly question with an obvious answer but I am confused.[i:52e35b1680][/i:52e35b1680]
