Detroit Diesel powered Oliver nicknamed ?The Bull?.

(Found on the 'net.)

I can't read it either. Too early to be White Oliver. All the "El Toro"s (The Bull),were built for export though weren't they?

The "EL TORO" name was a advertising gimmick. The big Goodyear tires were available on several models. from the 1650 to 1950 series.

The build cards show that only one 1650 gas was built. That tractor was sold new by the Oliver dealer in Munith, MI. I remember seeing that tractor in 1967 or 1968. It was used on a big muck potato farm.

The tractor is now owned by Chris Losey, but the wheels were changed before he got it, and he hasn't been able to find the correct original rims.

I've seen that picture before, if my rememberer is working that picture was at a horse race track in California that had bought
(leased, rented, been loaned??) to pull the track conditioner.

If Chris is watching this and that was Dixons sale, I think the terra tires off the 1650 were on the Allis 220 front assist he had there. I was there trying to buy the Allis HD6 clearing blade. Went for too much for me.

I have a little more information to go with that photo. It was taken around 1968 and the driver on the tractor is Ronald (Ron) Thompson, at the time owner of the Oliver dealership Thompson Impl. Company in Altura, MN. He showed me an original print and this is what the back of his picture states: "Oliver 1950 GM Dsl. with Terra Tires at Hollywood Racetrack in Hollywood Park California. This was in 1968 and they purchased 3 tractors. It performed well and left a perfect foot (Hoof) print. Jim McKenzie". The grill emblem is the normal Oliver Keystone but the side panels are indeed different. With a black background and white border they read "WHITE - OLIVER 1950". The certified horsepower sticker is below the 0 of 1950 and there is no El Toro identification. As to the engine noise, Ron said that was indeed an issue with the GM. I had the privilege of working for Ron. He and his wife are still living and a great people to talk Oliver's with!
