I wasn't planning on that to happen!!

Yesterday after work, I started the 2-62 backhoe/loader and went out to the field to move 2 stumps I dug out last fall. The diesel motor is weak, but carries about 20#s of oil pressure. I hooked a chain around one stump and picked it up and carried it over to a wash out in the fence and set it down. Went back a picked up the other one and as I was getting ready to move, the chain came loose and the stump fell to the ground and knocked quite a bit of dirt off of it. HMMM, maybe if I hook it back up and bounce it a few times I can knock more dirt off. I hooked it up and raised it up and dropped it a few times, bouncing the tractor as I did that. When I was moving the stump, I noticed that I had lost most of the oil pressure on the guage, barely above the 0. It was starting to drizzle, so I picked up the chains and bee lined to the shop. Checked oil again, Full. I need to stop at Napa after work and pick up another guage to check if there is oil pressure or not. What could I have done to the motor when I was bouncing the tractor around playing with the stump?? I knew I would have to tear down the motor, just didn't plan to have to do it this soon. Not really looking forward to pulling the motor out of this one. Chris

I actually had and oil pump fall out on me one time, I just put it back in with locktite and new lock washer and never had any trouble again on a super 66. that was in 1998 and the tractor still runs great with some farm use. Also seen a major oil pressure drop happen on a friends 770 due to the Hub/Bushing at the idler gear in the front of the engine, Hub was loose.

Couple of guesses ---

* In all the shaking around the oil pressure gauge line got kinked.
* Something in the pan got sucked into the oil pickup screen.
* Oil pickup tube came loose or a rusted pinhole developed?
* Low psi sometimes means a sudden large opening has developed downstream of the pump.

I picked up a new oil pressure guage at Napa after work yesterday, but I had and eye exam at 5, so I didn't get anything done last night. After work today, we went to vote and when we got home I worked on it a little. I took the oil pressure line loose from the block and started it up and it's pumping oil, so it must be the guage or line. I'll check further as time allows. Chris
