white 2-105 over/under experts?

I went through my over under tranny in my 2-105 white tractor. I have it mostly assembled and am following the repair manual. The manual has indicated to follow a procedure to apply air to the oil ports to check the clutch engagement of the over, direct and under clutch packs. It has indicated this be done with the housing cover with the oil pump off. I performed this procedure and the overdrive clutch seems fine, the direct drive clutch works fine, although it seems to be leaking air when I test it. Anyone know if this is normal when cover is off, or does it not make a difference?

A different situation I encountered is there is a little spring that came out of somewhere that is about the size of the spring in a pen, although a bit heavier. Any ideas where that came from?

Thanks for any help.

The little spring is the detent spring for the shifter . There should be a small ball that goes in first then the spring and then an 1/8 inch pipe plug. First off there is no underdrive clutch it uses a sprag to drive the trans. in under. Cover on or off should not make a difference a little leakage is normal with air . Can you tell where it is coming from -the clutch pack ,the sealing rings? After you put the cover on fill it with oil ,install gauges in the test ports and spin it with a half inch drill. You can use a short piece of radiator hose clamped to the input shaft and drill chuck to spin it. Be sure to hook a loop line to the cooler fittings on the O/U. The pressures wont be up to specs since the drill isn't turning it fast enough but they should be close and about the same in direct and over. Over maybe a little lower since it turns harder in over.
