Neighbor has a 1850 mfwd gas been sitting in the shed for 10yrs. He said it was running ruff when he parked it just though it needed tuned up...any idea what the 310 gas would be worth if I sold it. any idea on what it would take to put a gm Detroit 4-53 Jimmy in the 1850. Would any one be able to tell me what tire size should be. The 18.4 34 are near perfect. But the 11.2x24 are junk. He said they were all 4 new at the same time. He also said 4 wd pops out when turning on pavment.

A 4-53 will not fit in a 1850 tub its to narrow, won't work in any way shape or form without switching tubs.

Why would you put such a problematic motor in there. I'm a red guy but an oliver with a Jimmy is just amazing. Detroits were my would growing up in my dad was a mechanic for construction company full of Detroits. I've seen guys put v8 in 1800 so there's got to be a way.

A v8 is narrow at the bottom and the blower sits in the valley on the top of the engine. A 4-53 has the blower mounted to the side of the engine and sits down in the tub of a 1950.Unless your are going to cut a huge amount of the tub away it will NOT work. I have owned many 4 digit olivers including 1950's. If it was a wheatland that's a whole different story, all had the wide tub from the 1750 up.

First it is my loader tractor, second I don't remember them being as problematic as you say they are unless you are beating the snot out of them, and operating a loader is not going to do that or the gas motor in it would have went to heck along time ago! I have bigger tractors for field work. Have thought about dropping in a Perkins, but then need a different tub, so why not use what I have or get a different tractor! When I find an engine I will rebuild it with the updates. I have a Jimmy in a grain truck and to me it is a little less then amazing!

I sold my 1950 about 15 years ago but if memory serves me correct...the whole engine and flywheel housing is very wide. I would really recommend finding a 19 frame unless you want to get real innovative and build your own. FYI 1950-T frame is for a 310 engine and is narrow as well. Remember,,,the Waukesha engines as much as I hate to say are very small engines for thier horsepower class.
