White 2-135 oil

We did a test on one about 3-4 years ago. We had a little better oil pressure with the 15W 40. Depending on brand of oil your results may vary.

I tend to use straight wt 30 in all my 4 digit Olivers except the ones with the GM engines. If I didn't live in such a mild climate, I just might try a multi-grade oil (15-40) if the hot oil pressure was adequate. My big fear is doing the research to find the right product.

Back in the 1980s, motor oils typically contained around 1500 PPM (parts per million) of ZDDP. In the 1990s, that was reduced to 1200 PPM, then down to around 800 PPM in 2005. That level of anti-wear additive is adequate for overhead cam engines and pushrod engines that have roller cams, but it has proved to be inadequate for engines with flat tappet cams, causing accelerated cam lobe and lifter wear.

These days I add a ZDDP additive to the oil of all my diesel engines, its kind of a nuisance but I feel its entirely necessary.

Good luck. Keep an eye on things if you have a good engine you?re keeping alive.

I would read the owners manual and see what it says FIRST. Old engine with hours on it old strait weight oil. New (after 2000) use the new oils like 15w40 . The one thing to remember is this All the oil out there on the store shelves is made for the current oil needs for brand new gas and diesel engines (2016) and not to the oil needs of an engine built in the 1980's. Over the years tolerance's change in engine design and the oils have changed with them so put simply new engine new oil's 30 year old engine old style oil's for its needs. Myself I would not do it I would buy the 30W oil and stick with that. I know it's real tempting to buy the Walmart special deal on the big name oil to save money, But if it cost's you an engine then was it such a great deal ? Bandit

hd6gtom not to sound like a know it all but I have to ask you this question. Were do you buy 15w40 designed for the farm ? I have bought a lot of oil over the years and none of places I buy oil from have that, Just oil for gas engines and diesel engines. Like I said I know I don't everything but to be honest I have never herd of oil designed for farm use. bandit
