2-155 question

Went to an equipment auction Saturday and a couple of 2-155's were sold. The auctioneer said the Hercules engines in them would "run forever".they had a little under 5000 hrs apiece .don't these engines need an overhaul at 5000 or so hrs?

I wouldn't say they run for ever but they run for a long time. And they do make the power. I'd say 5-6000 depending on the type of life it's had

(quoted from post at 20:44:50 02/29/16) Don't know about engine life, but neighbor's 2-155 crank broke a bit over 6,000 hours.
f taken care of I have seen them run 8,000+ hrs no problem. I have 15,000hrs on a dd 339 but she is definitely ready for an O.H. runs good just lots of blow-by and low oil pressure.

These two were rode hard and put up wet if you know what I
mean(rough looking).Still, I've seen this before where the
maintenance was done but the owner really could care less
what it looked like!

3500 and sleeves got loose in one we had, plus cam was bad got rid of it seemed pto shaft out of flywheel was week point

My cousins 135 wasnt a cheap overhaul. It was as much as they bought the tractor for years before.

If the pto shaft snapped off right near flywheel, good chance it was operator abuse. The first 2-135 I bought from a dealer as is. He was going to stand the cost of parts. I just needed the first segment of pto shaft.
Later on I was talking to the original owner. He said he would always rev the tractor up and snap the pto lever quickly into position. His logic was this caused less wear on pto clutch plates.
My 2-135 tractor has 8300 relatively trouble free hours. And, yes it is driven hard and put away wet.
