More piston and sleeve questions

I am rebuilding a super 88 gas. I was planning to use 3-7/8 bore. Korves has them, but they are made in China. Maibach only offers 3-3/4, I believe they are made in usa. Is there a quality 3-7/8 set available? I'd rather lasting quality than power, but if a quality overbore set is available I'd like those. Does the 3-7/8 require a different head gasket? I've read some horror stories on here and am nervous. I've had an M&W set in a 77 for 20 years, but I'm sure they are old enough to be made in the us.

Korves sells m&w brand. They are now made in China, and I have read on here of some people not being happy with them.

Why don't you try Tom at Obrien County Implement and see what the scoop is on a genuine AGCO set.

Stick with the 3-3/4. Older 3-7/8 inch sets used 99 head gaskets which are hard to find. How much horse power are you looking for? Are you going to farm with this tractor?

Yes, this tractor will mostly be farmed with. Mostly light work. I also have a 77 with the m&w overbore (been in the tractor at least 25 years) and it has always run good. Impressively powerful, that's why I was thinking of the m&w for the super 88. But if rather a few less hp, and only have to do it once.

I would call Brad at Maibachs and ask him what the compression height is on a (3-7/8) piston for an 1800B, 1750, and 1850 gas compared to an 88, and tell him what you are trying to do.
Brad can also fix you up with the right head gasket to clear the 3-7/8 pistons. My 880 diesel loader has 3-7/8 pistons and I've never had any problems.

be sure to check the compression height on the 3-7/8 high dome as I have heard they come with a reduced height therefore lowering compression . if it's going to be a puller get forged pistons with a high dome ,like from aris or others . just my opinion to get that cr above 11 to 1 with a 30 cc dome.

I think I had read somewhere that those Tisco kits were pretty good quality. I only see standard bore listed. They say it is overbore, but it was standard on the supers.

That's good idea in theory but in reality we don't have a choice for many products. Not that I like it but that's the way it is. There's many reasons our manufacturing went to china and few to bring them back.

I looked into buying parts from yt once. I did not find a way to talk to a real person as I had some questions. I found another place that had people that would talk to you. Needless to say that's where I bought parts.

I don't think the oliver heads like domed pistons and you will get a lot more power out of flat top pistons, just mill the head as much as you can without going to far. Chuck
