To ALL
I have assembled a new to me Oliver 66 engine and started it tonight and could not get oil to the rocker arms after running the engine intermittently for about 10 minutes at idle. Here is what I have done;
1) Started with a 66 block and head that had good bearings, good crankshaft, good rocker arms, good oil pump etc. Everything looked to be in good shape.
2) Complete disassembly, power washed bare block, ran brushes through the oil passages and sprayed through oil passages with ether and compressed air. Found that the rod bearing squirters needed extra attention to get them clean. Inspected oil pump, crankshaft etc. all looked good.
3) Assembled engine with new bearings, piston rings, gaskets etc.
4) Filled engine with 10w-40 oil and installed new oil filter.
5) Started the engine with valve cover off and no oil, so poured some oil on the rockers and let it run a little longer (2 min). Oil pressure gage was pegged, but still no oil to the rockers. Disconnected oil line and ran engine a little more, still no oil to rockers.
6) Pulled oil line, oil fitting and head bolt no obstructions found.
7) Reassembled and ran engine for a couple more minutes with oil line disconnected, still no oil.
Garage is cold (30F) and the cooling water never got warm, is it possible I just need to let the engine run long enough to warm up a little?
Any other ideas?
Thanks
Rich
