Cockshutt 30

I picked up a cockshutt 30 a while back with 283 chevy v8. It's put together very nicely not a butcher shop transplant. It was built some time in the 70's. It looks runs and works well. The question is how good is the drive line? how well do you think that tractor can hold v8 power?

Not very well if full power were used, but at the rated engine speed of 1650rpm (for the tractor), it might stand up to the increased torque fairly well.

Look at the power curve for the engine. How much more than 32HP does the chevy make at those revs?

Is that a pulling tractor, it don't make a lot of difference, but is that the 283, with the factory 4 barrel, the so called power pack, If you stand on it,[tromp on it] it could flip backwards.

It's some where in the 175hp range but I have no intention of pulling it or using it. I was thinking of raking and tedding with it and just having a loud conversation piece.

No it was built to be a work tractor. It just has a little Rochester 2 barrel carb but it would still flip over backwards if you weren't careful

But not at 1650rpm!

Expecting the transmission to stand up to 4x its design speed at 6x the power output is asking just a bit too much. Now, how much power and torque does that engine produce at the tractor transmission design speed, ie 1650rpm at the input shaft, compared to the standard engine? Remember a fergie TO20 can likely pull a 2 furrow plough just as well as, or better than, a Ferrari high end sports car.

Need to compare apples with apples, not oranges.

I really have no idea. I figure its lasted 40 years so if I'm careful I shouldn't destroy it. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to ruin it
