1550 adjustable front axle

I'm restoring my 1550 and have completed all the disassembly work, except the front axle, specifically the extension tubes that make it 'adjustable'. I have the u-bolts off, the pins out, but it won't budge. I put an 8-ton hydraulic jack on it and gave it the proverbial heat-and-beat, but still no movement. Is there a trick to this? Or am I better off leaving it together? I won't ever need to change the width, but was really hoping to get in there and get it de-rusted.

If you don't need to change it,leave it alone. I've had the clamps loose on my 1600 with a loader on it for 15 years now, running it that way,and it still hasn't even tried to budge.

I replaced a broken one on my 1650 with one that was like new but had been laying outside for years. It took a fifty ton ram-pac with heat to get it apart. It is also pretty dangerous and scary when you press one apart with hydraulics. If I didn't need to move mine I would of left it alone.

Build a good lump charcoal fire under it and get it to glow orange for several hours -- that's HEAT. That will expand the crap out of it.
