oliver 66 diesel wide front/factory 3pt value ??

Hi everyone was looking for some input on a oliver 66. Sorry I'm a IH man and looking at green tractor finally. Lol my buddy has a early 50's 66 row crop with a diesel factory wide front and 3pt hitch set up tractor is all original with nice tin work and new rear tires. All gauges and lights are there and working also. My only worries is the diesel engine it runs good but always was started on starting fluild even in summer time.I'm needing a year around tractor so not sure about this old diesel in winter months what are some common problems with this diesel? Are parts costly? He wants 4000 I think its to much personally but not sure of the value really like the tractor but don't need a headache everytime I want to start it when its cold thanks I'm open to any advice thanks Jim.

Does it have a block heater? Sounds like it is low on compression. Get the head off and correcting the valve recession will help a lot + a new set of good sleeves and pistons will help that. I will ask you this: If the tractor has been running for a time and it is at operating temperature and you shut it off, if you go back 10 minutes later will it start without starting fluid. There were never too many 66 diesels. We had a customer that had one no 3 point and a single front wheel instead of a wide front and it brought $4000.00 on a sale over 10 years AGO!

They bring VERY good money. Last one I saw sell went for around $7000. They are quite hard to find.
