I have a camshaft number 222023a that is supposedly out of an 1800 that I was told will go in a 88. But the number on it is 190223. Will these two cams interchange or do I need one out of an 88 only?

I have found on working on my Super 55 that part numbers with the "a" suffix were improvements made on the same production. Someone's going to have to tell you if you can interchange them, but my guess would be yes.

No. Your 220 cam is out of a 7 main bearing engine. If it is out of a gas engine the valve arrangement is way different. If it is a 7 main bearing diesel engine 1800 they will interchange. Need a little more information.
