I know there are some variables but does anyone know what it would cost to rebuild a hydra shift? I am going to talk to a local guy about doing mine real soon and would like to know what I'm getting into.
 
I had the 3 speed from my White 2-135 rebuilt by a dealer a year and a half ago. It was pretty torn up inside,needed lots of parts. The labor was $500 if that helps you out any. The parts were a lot more than that. I took it out of the tractor and put it back in myself.
 
I needed to replace a shaft and I think it was a gear or two on one I worked on. Over $1200 just for those 2-3 parts alone, that was probably 5-10 years ago.

Thanks I was planning on pulling it out and putting it back in myself also. This is on my puller we was running alot more hp last summer and half way through the low side stopped shifting under load the high still shifts fine.
 
The sprag along when I did our 1850 was around $350 about 8 years ago. How much Hp are you running out of yours? May want to increase line pressure to the high side clutch also.
 
I haven't dynoed it but it will handle 5th under with 18.4 38s, 5th direct on a loose track. The guy I talked to said something about turning the pressure up.
 
We can normally run 8500 in 5th direct with ground 18.4 x38's on a hard pulling track having to shift at the end. We normally pull 8500 to 15000 with ours and let our 5 big tractors take over at 15000 up to 19000. Most classes are pace 3.5-5 mph depending on location. What area of the country are you from?
 
Im in Missouri, I pull anywhere from 3.5 to open mainly 5 and 8 mph 7500 and up heaviest being 11,500. There are some high powered monsters around here once you get to 10,500 and up so most times I keep it under 9500, having said that even before the turbo the ol 1850 has impressed alot of people with how strong it competes.
