Super 55' Clutch spider drum removal?

Thought New years day 2016' was going to start off good and what the heck, can't seem to remove that there spanner nut which is holding the clutch spider drum. I believe I have unstaked it and trying to hold it from turning is another problem? If at all possible can you put the trans into a gear to keep the drum from rotating and yes I know it takes a lot of initial torque when installed. I was using a large spanner wrench on the drum and it seemed to hold it but garsh darn I'm going to have to rent one of those there linemen I seen on T.V. to break it I am turning in the counter clockwise to get it off. Thanks there farmers. :?

Putting it in gear will not do anything as the PTO is not tied to the transmission. Are you holding the output shaft with a pipe wrench? One of those nuts was also left handed. I have not put a PTO clutch in one of those in over 40 years. Do you have a shop manual?

Yes I do have a manual and it says the nut I'm trying to take off has a right hand thread and yes I'm holding the hollow clutch shaft with a pipe wrench and a spanner wrench on the spider drum. Maybe I need to eat some Wheaties? No that ain't the case as I have 1/2" breaker bar on a 2" pipe I made up with a socket welded to it. This here tool is more than strong enough for the job. Don't wan't to burn down my town but I thought about some heat? All the gear oil has been drained.

You might try tapping the breaker bar with a hammer while applying pressure to make an "impact wrench" out of it. Might take more than two hands if you are
also holding the pipe wrench. It is amazing what a little impact will do.

The nut maybe staked in more than one spline--I drill them out with a 1/8th drill bit by going along the spline---I think you will turn it alot easier with an impact wrench than by hand---HTH

As a couple other guys said I had to hammer mine to free it after I drilled it out. On my spider wrench which I made I had a welded spot on the pipe where I was able to hit with a little pressure on wrench and it came lose on a couple strikes.
