A long story but I ended up using a 310 block to o/h my 2-70. All seemed well until went to put head on, and discovered 1 extra coolant port in head from 2-70 that is not in the 310 block. looking from the rear of the block it is on the left side, close to the 2nd head bolt from the rear. Any one know if this is a problem? I assumed not as I torqued head on, but got to wondering after if it matters? I checked out the old 283 block and sure enuff there is a extra coolant passage in it that matches the head. Am I going to need a 310 head, or is it o/k? Help please.

You have casting numbers for the 2 blocks as well as the head and do you have the stamped Oliver part number for the head. I probably had 20 years of notes for casting numbers for blocks and heads that I lost because of a computer virus. Also remember Oliver made one block for a while that was used on both 283 & 310 engines and that most tractors had used more than one block from the start of production till the end of production. You have e-mail?

John sorry took so long to reply. I have no email at present. My home computer has been "sick" The casting numbers on the 2-70 block are 221620 below that is 166425A and below that 7156. The numbers on the 310 block I am using are
157329A below that is 221120C and below that is 933. the 2-70 head that I have bolted onto it has casting number 223 202 with the stamped number being 30-3000028. I have no idea why I did not see the lack of the 3rd coolant hole in the 310 block before now? Hoping you will tell me what I want to hear? I do have e-mail at work. It is [email protected]
I might get it on my phone here at home, but would prefer if you could answer on the forum just so others may learn from my mistakes if nothing else. Thanks very much for your help. Tom
