Did the Cockshutt 40 gas and diesel 40 and 50's for that matter share the same block? What about connecting rods?I know 50 used non removable sleeve block.

Cockshutt 40 gas is sleeved, all 50 blocks were sleeveless. Rods may be interchangeable. The allis 262 rods are the same as cockshutt 40, but the pistons and sleeves between allis 262 and cockshutt 40 are not interchangeable: cockshutt used flat top pistons with combustion chamber in the head, allis used dished pistons with flat head surface. Allis sleeves also have o ring on sleeve, while cockshutt block used o ring in block to seal water out (or vice versa), so allis 262 sleeves are not useable in cockshutt block.

50/E5 blocks are quite rare (different than 40 blocks), and as far as I know they are the only thing that used the 273 buda. Prone to cracking as well.

Hi Wilson,

Both of the Cockshutt/Co-op 40/E4 and 50/E5 BUDA "B" series blocks have the exact same external dimensions. The rods are the same as are many of the internal parts. The 40/E4 is a wet sleeved engine with the sleeve seals on the sleeves. The 50/E5 has no sleeves. It is block bored.

The block casting numbers are different between the gas and diesel blocks.

The Allis Chalmers "G" series engines have the sleeve seals in the block. Many of the parts interchange between the "B" and "G" series engines. After Allis bought the BUDA Company in 1953, some changes were made to the "B" series engine and were renamed as the "G" series engines, ie, G-230 and G-262

I hope this helps!
