1555 Matching Numbers?

I'm interested in a 1555. The serial number is indicating that it was built in 1969. I had time to go over it and it looks all original, however I noticed that the casting dates on the motor and rear were from 1967. Is this a franken tractor or is it possible that early 1555's somehow had 'leftover' parts from 1550s?

I don't have insider knowledge but I would guess leftover parts. Oliver probably knew when those parts were cast that there was to be a 1555 tractor following the 1550. It cost money to tool up to make and process the castings so they decided to make a long run to lower overhead.

Wouldn't be surprised. My 1550 has more in common with the 1555s than the earlier 1550s. I broke a shift rod in it a few years ago and had to get one out of a 1555. Mine has the 3 piece hood sides too.

Don't forget castings were left to age before they were machined. Did you write down the casting dates and the engine serial number as well?

There was a push for the 1555's. Some 1550 tractors that weren't sold went to the bullpen to be switched over to
55's. I've had two 1555 utilities that were done that way. They gave them a new badge. It was indicated on the
build cards.
