sludge removale

Hello on my oliver oc3, it looks involved to remove the oil pan so I can clean the sludge out. Any other chemicals or ideas?? I would like to clean some before I start the engine . Thanks

If it is sludged, I would do the job properly and remove the sump. That way you would know it was all cleaned out. Remember, those engines are lubed with unfiltered oil.

If it has been run for years on detergent oils, there may be no sludge. My Ollie 90 was mostly cleaned out (except for the timing gears) , yet the lube line to the governor became blocked soon after starting. I was keeping an eye on the oil circulation so was monitoring it regularly for any trouble, as it had exploded the governor housing once before in its life. It was fed with detergent oil and now runs clean.

Took the oil pan off my HG-42 Cletrac, which is essentially the same. It really isn't difficult to do. If you have a car lift, it's easier than laying underneath the crawler. You'll need a gasket kit from Zimmerman's.
One other thing - be sure to clean all the crud from the area around the dipstick. Mine had so much buildup that the dipstick could not be pushed in all the way. It would read a quart low when it was, in fact, correct.
