we have an oliver 77 that has leaked water into the oil again. we did new sleeves and pistons last winter after it did it the first time(they were worn out) got the new sleeves in everything looked fine. ran it for a while and we checked the oil and it was obvious. what are any tips to get the leaks to stop from the cylinder O-rings?

my brother is going crazy trying to figure out why this is happening and if anyone has any suggestions we are listening

thank you

for old farmalls [f-20,regular] I have used radiator sealer. get the silver stuff if you can find. run the tractor for several minutes with radiator covered and get as hot as you are comfortable with.let set for a day or two before you run again.good luck

I overhauled a Super 55 that the block was pitted real bad on where the O-rings are supposed to seal. My son builds engines for a living and told me to use pipe dope paste instead of soap for a lubricant when I put them in. I did. It's been two and a half years and it hasn't leaked a drop.

Hello
We have a couple of these and they are diesels that had the same problem. Hopefully the block was checked when apart at the bottom where the o rings seal they are known for cracking in between cylinders at least I have seen several do this. They will crack at the top between cylinders but I have never had any problems with putting them together like that. I have also taken these apart and found rolled o rings. If it was me I would take the pan off and pressurize the cooling system to see which one and where it's leaking. Good luck

The first thing to check is do any of the soft plugs under the valve cover leak? We had a kit the other year on a different brand engine where the O-rings lasted less than a year. I will send you an e-mail. J.

I'll second that. e seen a couple cracked through the bottom webbing between sleeves. One was on one of our 66's we have that I am restoring in my spare time. Cracks in the top between cylinders never bothered me much.

The O-rings in most oh kits today are junk. Throw them away and get them from agco, case, jd or whatever brand you are working on.
