Over/Under Overdrive Housing Leak

I'm finally putting everything back together on the over under. I tested the unit with a drill on the input shaft and I have a leak at the overdrive clutch housing. It can't seem to get the overdrive housing cinched down to the main housing enough to compress the small 1/8" x 1/4" o-ring on the side of the overdrive housing. Any ideas? I've tried taking it apart and putting it back together a couple of times now.

You have a part number for that O-ring? If it is the one I thinking of there was a bulletin about them leaking but it has been 40 + years since I worked on one and I would need to look it up to refresh my memory. You have a phone number? J.

Thanks for looking it up. The number is K2226, it is actually a 1/16" x 1/4" ID o-ring. Do the two housings normally meet when assembled and tight? My # is in my profile. Thanks again!

Housing cinches up tight when installed properly. There are 2 small O-rings on the overdrive housing, and 1 large O-ring, do you have all 3? Here are some pics, p/n's, and a photo of a housing installed so that you can see the fitting clearance.

The retainer in Mitch's picture has a small step on side I think the step faces the rear if its installed wrong the housing won't fully mate with the main case. Item #105

Thanks for posting all of the pictures Mitch! You've already been helpful with this project. I do have all three of the o-rings in.
I have been putting the clutch retainer with the flat side towards the back. In the manual it says the side with the chamfer on the ID goes towards the rear. I was surprised that the manual states it that way and doesn't refer to the step on the face of it. Looking at the picture that Mitch posted it looks like the flat side goes towards the rear. I'll let you know how I make out with this.

The overdrive housing fits snug when the retainer is in the position of the second picture with the step side up. Does anybody remember which one is correct?
Hopefully this is my last question, at least on the over/under. Thanks again!
