white 2-44

what can you tell me about a 2-44 white ? I know it's the industrial version( gas) and seller said it has a shuttle trans he didn't know how many speeds as it's his fathers, or about the pto any info will help be for I go look at it as I am 150 miles from him THANKS

I don't know why some people respond to a question, but they won't answer it.

The shuttle transmission has four speed forward - four speed reverse. A lot of the 2-44's did not have pto, but if it does it will be the regular independent style used in other Oliver tractors.

It's the same as a 550

thanks for the info . went looked at today it followed me home 3800Hrs on tack he thought original hrs, has pto , 1510 loader (needs cyl rebuilt on bucket,rear chains,7ft rear blade 85% rear tires, needs paint pd $2750

I have a 2-44 with loader & backhoe that had been heavily used. I bought it 20 years ago for salvage as the transmission would not stay in gear. When I opened it up the upper shaft front bearing cap had broken and the lower part of that front bearing mount was damaged from it being used that way. I found there was an Oliver service bulletin offering a heavy duty replacement top bearing cap. But the new cap had to be installed and then bored. Since my case was damaged I found a 550 tractor that had been in a fire and swapped the complete transmission and rear end. I sure wish I had that shuttle transmission, but now when I remove the backhoe I have a PTO. The moral of the story is take care of that shuttle transmission. If you pull the transmission top cover for any reason give that top front bearing and cap a good inspection and retorque the cap bolts.
