Cockshutt 30 gas tank need air?

I have been working on a Cockshutt 30 for a few months trying to get it running good enough so I can trust it on a joy ride without it stopping and me walking back home.

The gas tank cap leaks when tank is anywhere near full. I added a gasket I cut from gasket material and it no longer leaks. Cap fits on real tight.

Question I have is I think now the cap with the gasket makes for an air-tight covering. I have driven the tractor for 20 minutes so far (wide open) and it runs flawlessly. The question I have is "does that tank need air coming in as the motor runs?"

My Farmall H needs air coming in to run, or it will stop after a while, starved for fuel.

Yes it needs some way for the air to get in to replace the volume of gas going out. Your cap may not be sealing as well as you think.

Neil, Thanks for your reply and answer. I knew air had to replace the gas going out, but when I look at that tank cap with the new gasket it baffles me as to how air can pass thru it. I guess it is better to be baffled than walking!

Walking is never the best! It is a two way one too. First to get some tools then back to do the repair!
Have a good one and enjoy your 30. I have 9 Cockshutt's, but sold my 30 last year so it is the only one I don't have.
