I noticed some super 88 have 2 filters mounted horizontaly . Mine is a 1956 and is mounted verticaly . Did they change somewhere along the line . There is one currently for sale on this site with 2 filters . Just curious ?

I guess you are talking oil filters. Original 88 & early Super 88 diesels had 2 oil filters. Filtering material changed and so did oil. There is no exact serial number breakdown to my knowledge on when the change was made but 1956 is close. Filter base replacement packages were also for a single filter

You've brought up a subject that I'm going to tackle. My NAPA book shows that all Super 88 diesel takes two 1700 filters. So what type of setup do you have?
I've got a Super 88 diesel with the two horizontal filters and I don't like the setup because the filters are also held on by a flat bar and two additional rods.
One of my 2016 projects is to take a filter mount from a salvage 88D tractor, drill and tap a small block Chevy pipe thread fitting into it and install two screw-on filters from a Chevy engine.
Sounds like a lot of time and effort over nothing, but my own time is worthless.

Or...after reading John's post, maybe I'll just swap an oil filter mount from a later tractor.

When you installed char-Lynn power steering on the older one with 2 filters, you needed the single filter retrofit kit. Otherwise there was interference with the torque motor.
