1973 2-44fl

I just bought a 2-44fl with a Waukesha/oliver 155 diesel engine. What purpose are the orifice inserts under the plugs in the head? Can one affect compression or not? Need to know before I pull the head. Thanks.

Is this a direct injected engine or an indirect injected engine with the energy cell chambers that the injectors squirt fuel into? Don't fully understand what you are asking. Are you checking the compression?

155 is a Lanova injection system. You can VERY carefully clean the carbon from them if the orifice is plugged. If you are going to tear into your engine invest in a Fleetline service manual re-print.

I was told by the selling party that number three cyl had no compression. The injectors go into one side of the head and there are plugged holes on the opposite side with what are called orifice inserts in them. I wasn't familiar with these. They must have to do with the fuel injection process, right. The fuel pump and injectors will need to be rebuilt, but I'm checking out the dead cylinder first.

Does the engine run? I would check several other items before I took the head off. You have an e-mail address? We serviced probably close to 300 Oliver diesels that used the Lanova combustion chamber and only ever one engine on which had plugged energy cells!

It ran several years ago on three cylinders, just brought it home, don't want to pull the head unless I have to. Limited time to work on it, Fuel to pump, but no further, haven't checked for rust at pump yet. [email protected].
