1650 high speed

Have a 1650 that I got last week. Seemed awful fast when I drove it to town to steam clean some of the grease and dirt off it. Took it out yesterday with handheld GPS and cocked myself at just shy of 24 mph with 15.5x38 tires with 25-30% tread. How common is the high speed pinion?

I've got one too! Narrow front, gas, just took it down the road yesterday too because I was curious about it's top speed. I can only get 21.25MPH, same tires, about 25% tread. This was on flat gravel. Maybe my high idle isn't set high enough (but I rarely have it at full throttle).

I personally really like the high speed rear and wouldn't really want to go back. It is a little hard with you want to go really slow, but that's pretty rare.

Mine is wide front with loader and a steering hydramotor that leaks and it drifts right. Easier to manage at slower speeds.

I put a 1655 rear end back together recently that I used high speed gears in, and a faster ring and pinion. It has 16.9X38's and a over/under. I'm
interested to see what it's top speed will be.

Mine has it narrow front good way to commit suicide. Had a allis
with no power steering almost whipped it to fast the first time also
found out going down the road with mounted gyro mower it gets fun
when you're front end starts bouncing going down the road. But it's
nice to pull out and pass other tractors and one of these days I'm
going to take it through town and see if I can get a speeding ticket

I, too, am not a big fan of narrow fronts. I feel much safer with a wide front (and that's what's I'm used to, really). Also, with a loader, when you've got a load on the bucket, having the wheels right next to each other sometimes makes for a pretty big hole and the wide front seems to spread it out more (especially with bigger tires).

But I'd have to get a different loader if I switched, and I just don't have the money for that, so that's what I'll be sticking with for now.

The hi-speed transmission had to be ordered so there were not that many built that way in the row crop tractors. Now all of the utilities had the hi-speed transmission in them, Like the 1550 1555 and the 1600 1650 and I think they made a 1655 in the utility. My 1550 with 14.9x28's on it will go 20- 21 mph down the road and that's plenty fast enough for me. I would hate to see how fast mine would go with 15.5x38's on it, More than likely I'd get a speeding ticket. Bandit
