Gentlemen ,
I just got a Cockshutt 540 and the canister that contains the hyd.oil filter (I think) is leaking . Has anyone got any guidance as to how to open it , filter number , drawings / pictures etc. ?
Thanks ,
Alg

Hi,

Remove the bolt on the hydraulic end cap of the round filter can. Carefully, pry off the tin end cover cap. Next is a bushing sleeve that has a o-ring seal on it. Next is a small spring. and next is the hydraulic filter.

We stock the filter and o-ring here. We have ALL the filters on stock here for ALL THE COCKSHUTT BUILT COCKSHUTT TRACTORS, plus alot more other Cockshutt parts.

(quoted from post at 19:07:21 09/22/15) Go to the link below. Select Guess User. Select White and enter 540. Select Cockshutt 540 and view Ill. 140 for a breakdown. NAPA will be able to get you a filter

Wow , what a resource . Thanks very much Joseph , I appreciate you taking the time .

I'm now trying to locate the level plug or dipstick for the pto casing . I found the big (1") one on the side near the top and a smaller one centre bottom (drain?). Do you know how to check the oil level ? I assume it takes gear oil (90?) .

Thanks again ,
Alg

The big plug on the top of the PTO is where you fill the Rear end, Transmission and PTO (they are all tied together). There is a level plug on the side of the Transmission you fill it up to (left I believe). 90w Gear oil should work fine.

Thanks Joseph . You're right , there's a plug on the left side right under the foot plate . That must
be it ?
Have you any idea how much oil it takes ?
