Can anyone help me with a starting problem? I recently bought this tractor and it starts and runs great until I stall it under load then it won't start again. It seems like it might be flooding it's self but not sure. I shut off the fuel when this happens but it still takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours before it will sputter to life again then it runs great until I stall it again. And please don't say, "don't stall it" Carb is good and clean and has a new carb kit and the engine was rebuilt recently so it's good. I need it to help my son level lots of pit run for a new double wide home that is ready to move on the lot. So I'm desparate!! Any advice would be welcome. thanks

Yes it will sputter and try to fire but seems like it is flooded. Points were cleaned. It starts great cold every morning and runs great. The generator is working well too with over 8 volts output. The thing is it will run great if I don't push it too hard. It's a little fast for pushing dirt. As long as I don't lug it down I'm good but as soon as I work it too hard and I'm not fast enough on the clutch it quits. When I try to restart it right away it will sputter but won't start until it cools down or I leave it for a couple of hours. It will run without the battery cables attached so I know that the spark is good, right? Frustrating!! I'm going to clean and refresh the oil bath air cleaner today thinking maybe it is restricting air flow and sucking more fuel into the carb/engine than is necessary.

Mag or distributor?? When it dies check your spark. You need a good blue/white spark that jumps at least a 1/4 inch gap if not more. Good chance your spark is on the weak side. Also check you plugs. If there wet yes it is flooding but if dry not likely

I thing it's a mag. I've only had it a week so still learning but will check the spark as you say and plugs. Thanks guys

If a mag common problem is for the coil to get hot and that in turn causes weak spark when hot

Well thank you so very very much. I replaced the coil this afternoon and the old girl runs like a swiss watch. I worked it hard and pushed her down to a lug and she kept on chugging away and recovered. Shut it off and she started right up again.
I will sleep much better tonight. Thanks again from Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. If I could I'd buy you a bottle of your favorite brew. Cheers, Gil
