1655 Injector Lines Leak

1970-1655

I had the injector pump and injectors rebuilt for a 1655. When I put it all back together, it leaks. Two banjo bolts are leaking and 4 of the face seal fittings on the lines are leaking. I went over the torque and they are tight. The banjo fittings were done at the pump shop. Is there something I can do to get them sealed up, or do I need new fittings on the lines? Never had one do this before.

The ermeto line ends you have can be hard to seal sometimes, especially when the banjo fittings are moved around on the pump and no longer with the line it was on previously. Best luck I've had is to take the line nuts loose, and re-tighten several times. I've even swapped banjo fittings before trying to stop the leaks The banjo bolt/line washers need to be really tight. If the hydraulic head port has chipped threads use the larger 11354 copper washer to seal outside the damaged thread area, or replace the head, REALLY expensive.. I have the best luck with Delphi 5936 332C line bolt washers when the 16225 have leaks..

Okay this might sound funny but it works.Unravel and use one strand of tarred twine(like used on a cross line).Wrap it around the "bolt" to where it gets under the brass washer.Tighten it down and cut off the excess .Had the same problem on an IH 454and it never leaked again.Wrap it about 4 turns but be careful not to let the twine overlap itself.Be sure to use a stand that is not more than about a 32nd thick

If you look carefully at the STEEL line washers you will one side is "flat", and the other side has a slight curve. The flat side goes towards the LINE, not the hydraulic head or bolt. Use only the steel washers or you can have the bolt contact expensive parts. Any dealer or pump shop should have the washers on the shelf as all DB series pumps use the same ones. We buy ours from Interstate-McBee by the 100's, they are cheap enough they should never be reused.
