770 oliver ring gear and pinion

Hi guys,
You have all been helpful through all of my Oliver repairs. I am working on my dad's 1968 770 oliver. We have it split and found the culprit of it jumping out of gear. The snap ring groove on the motor side of the pinion shaft is shot and not even in the groove. The snap ring groove is really rounded off, thus letting the snap ring push off. We have a spare rear-end for it and have a question about it. Can I use the pinion shaft out of the parts rear-end with the ring gear out of my dad's tractor? I have always been on the understanding that they are supposed to be a matching seat. The ring gear out of the parts rear-end has a lot of chips out of it, but the pinion is in pretty good shape and the snap ring groove is perfect. I really appreciate your help. This tractor is loader/hay tractor if that makes any difference. The high acreage plowing days are over for it. Thanks. Jeremy

Is your tooth count the same or in other words what are the last 3 numbers of the serial number? By the way you can take the ring gear out without removing both bull gears too. Have you though of re-machineing the snap ring groove Questions? I think you are over here not too far from me. Got a phone number? J.

Hi Mr Schwiebert,
I have your phone #. Is it ok if I call you? I have talked to you a couple times over the phone in the past. Thanks.
Jeremy
