Hi guys,
You have all been helpful through all of my Oliver repairs. I am working on my dad's 1968 770 oliver. We have it split and found the culprit of it jumping out of gear. The snap ring groove on the motor side of the pinion shaft is shot and not even in the groove. The snap ring groove is really rounded off, thus letting the snap ring push off. We have a spare rear-end for it and have a question about it. Can I use the pinion shaft out of the parts rear-end with the ring gear out of my dad's tractor? I have always been on the understanding that they are supposed to be a matching seat. The ring gear out of the parts rear-end has a lot of chips out of it, but the pinion is in pretty good shape and the snap ring groove is perfect. I really appreciate your help. This tractor is loader/hay tractor if that makes any difference. The high acreage plowing days are over for it. Thanks. Jeremy
