Oliver 1550 BAckhoe

Ice-T

New User
Hello, went and looked at an Oliver backhoe yesterday. Good, solid tractor, but needed a little TLC.

The boom rotator is hydraulic motor, probably 12" in dia, and 15" high. The boom drifts really bad when idle. Assuming rotate motor is bad, are new seals available?

Power Steering appears to be out, are pumps and motors repairable and available?

The F/R worked pretty well, but sometime it wouldn't return to N, have to idle way down to shift gears sometime. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help, I know this is a rare bird and probably not much info about it. Thinking about calling Korves Mon morning for any advice, is there someone else more knowledgable?

You need to check things out a little better before you call anybody. Remember Oliver had industrial contracts so the average Oliver dealer did not mess with the industrial equipment. You have a phone number? I will get you started.

I have a very similar boom rotator on an industrial Super 77 that also has some slop in it. That has not been a problem in 15 years around the farm. It is not used daily.

A good hydraulic repair center would be able to take care of your problems. For by your pictures the pump appears to be a common gear pump that if it is not available one could be found. For the rotator it just has some leaky seals in it and they should be able to help with a seal kit especially if they can find the manufacturer of the unit or go with generic seals. It will cost though. If it does not drift too bad you can live with it.
