My new-to-me 1966 1850 runs very good but the pto lever will not do a snap over to engage. The Operator's manual is very sketchy on the inside workings of the pto, so I'm asking if anyone has a good diagram on how to adjust the pto clutch. The operator's manual mentions something about depressing a pin (that I cannot find) and turning a disk which I also don't see.
It's got the 540 rpm pto.

Thanks

On the rear back of the pto housing up near the top is a plug around 2" that you take out and shine a flashlight in to see the pin that you mentioned. It's on the left side. Take a screwdriver and depress the pin and push the big nut clockwise. It is not and will take a little time to figure it out. I hope this helps.

If you never had that plug out you will need to make a tool to help remove the plug. You will need a 5/8 inch cap crew and weld a nut to the end of it. Place one end in the hex hole on the plug and get a break-over bar and probably a cheater pipe on it to break the sealant loose on the plug. remember the amount you tighten the adjuster is different too if your tractor has a right or left hand handle. More questions?

The PTO handle in on the right side.
I've got the plug out and when I look inside, I see the edge of a gear on the left side and when I look deep inside I see one part of a possible spider gear to engage. When I turn the pto shaft I can see an inside section that rotates and an outer 'ring' that slightly moves but seems to make a sound like its hitting something.
I cannot see any pin to depress!!

OK I found the PIN!!!

Now the manual says "with pin depressed, rotate adjusting ring counter-clockwise to decrease clutch engagement pressure"
Is this done by having a third hand ? (one for holding light, one for pressing pin, one for turning said ring) Is the adjusting ring on the outside? My outside ring won't move. Is there a trick here?
