1650 hydraulics low fluid level

The 1650 I bought last winter had a leaking ps cylinder and the guy who sold it had run the hydraulic fluid down level low. I pulled the top off and the level was 2-1/2" below the bottom of the dipstick. I don't think the 3 pt lift was used much if at all after the fluid started leaking. Would that have damaged the pump?

Also does the 1650 hydraulic pump pull fluid from the bottom of the reservoir or does it get fresh fluid straight from the filter? - thanks.

Well The fluid comes from the lower part of the reservoir. The filter is fine enough if you pulled the oil through the filter first you could starve the pump for oil and pump caviation would occur and ruin the pump. Have you checked your system pressures?

No, have not checked the pressure yet. Was worried about fluid level being so low. My plan was to drain and refill with new filter then check pressure. Pump is not noisy and the lift raised up ok with no load.

Is there a screen in the by-pass valve that should be cleaned? - thanks.
