Super 55, power steering

I removed the steering column, with hydraulic control valve, for the steering cylinders, and during tear down of the column, I found the nut on the shaft , spot welded to the shaft. after carefully grinding off the 3 spot welds, the threads seemed to have been previously stripped. The shaft was very rusty, and the two thrust bearings are maybe useable, but also mighty rusty. The control block, with the ports in it, don't match up with the pictures in the IT manual. externally it looks the same, but internally it has rollers in it that the book doesn't show. I guess it probably doesn't make any difference, since every thing is very rusty inside it, and it needs a replacement. I looked on YT parts, and found some parts at a very steep price. $722.00 for a control valve, and new shaft, with a ball screw. I got ahold of Kent Gordon, and will order the column from him, and hope that its good inside. At least, Kent guarantee's his stuff, and a man doesn't break the bank, dealing with him. AND NOW- What I currently ,want to know, is what tractor I am working on. The sheet metal says Super 55, the steering column seems to be 550, the generator- steering pump didn't want to line up with the pulleys, till I made my own bracket, and still had to move the oil filter, to get clearance. I wiped the oil and dirt, off the serial number plate, and brought the number in the house, and tried to identify it. The numbers didn't appear on either my serial number book, or the YT serial number guide. I am going to post these in hopes that one of you folks, will get back to me with what I have. Serial number 13989-518 and specification number 15-0015. Thanks RALPH

You have an early 1955 Super 55. The power steering was added later. That is why it is like a 550 Explain or do you have a picture of your brackets. What is the model number of your generator? Is it 6 or 12 volt?

Thanks John. I just came in the house from trying to remove the loader, I am about 1/2 done. I have to babysit my 4 yr old great grand son, and it's getting into mosquito time of day, so I will have to get back to you on your questions. the genny- pump is supposed to be 12 vt., and is a delco unit. I will have to wait, to get the number off of it. Pictures from me are non existant, being as there are no teenagers around here, to help me post such things. Teenagers seem to know more about those things, than the 40 and over people do. While trying to remove the DuAl loader, I stumbled over a bracket under the tractor, that I don't remember seeing before. It looks like it would be for a generator, or altenator, being as it has a slotted hole for belt tightening. I ordered the generator- pump fron Allstates in Wisconsin, and Larry told me on the phone, IIRC, that he was sending along the mounting brackets, maybe that is where it came from, and was promptly kicked around, and got lost. The unit is mounted now, and working, but my courious is getting to me, about that bracket. I may take it back off, and try the bracket.
