Well I'm pretty sure an injector is misfiring on the 1550,plenty of fuel and sounds like its running on 5 cylinders sometimes. What is the best way to go about checking to see which one is the problem? Also I see a place called Spencer diesel in Iowa sells rebuilt 1550 injectors for around $65 anyone dealt with this company? Know of a better place to
get injectors?

Several ways to do this. I like to loosen the exhaust manifold and slide it up to see which cylinder misfires. Then take that injector out and put it in a different cylinder and see if the miss stays with the injector or if it is internal in the engine (sticking exhaust valve). I have not priced tips in 2 years but I would say you can get a better deal than that. Those tips cost me $38.00 and I didn't get a discount. Did you get my e-mail the other day? J.

A quick redneck way that I use is start the engine cold, then feel each exhaust outlet as it warms up, the coldest one is usually where the trouble is. The injector tips last I had were not bad for DN 0 SD 21. If you have white smoke that clears when the fuel line is loose on one cylinder, but starts the smoke when tight may be compression trouble also. Smoke means fuel is present through the injector. If I remember right the last tips like what you have, the complete injector was about fifty each to clean and repair with new tips installed.

Went over this morning and started the 1550 up and #1 was cold while 2-6 were getting hot, after it warmed up awhile #1 was cutting in some.Pulled off the valve cover and all the valves, rockers etc looked like they were working fine.Went ahead and ordered an injector the fellow at Spencer Diesel was real nice and knowledgable so that was a plus.
Anyway I guess if that's the problem I'll be real happy to get it fixed for less than
$100.

With the engine running loosen the injection line at a injector one at the time and see it the engine stumbles, then tighten the line , do that with each injector in succession til you hit one that don't make a difference in the running,..that's the one that's causing the trouble.
If you have one bad one it usually pays to have them all tested at a diesel shop

You're right I do need to have them checked, problem around here is its become a surburban area with very little going on as far as something like a good diesel shop. The nearest one is about 50 miles away and for what they charge I might as well just go ahead and buy
the new or rebuilt injector. This tractor sat out in the woods down in NC for 4 years until I bought it this Spring, after the owner had a head job done and couldn't get it to start so I expected problems.
Actually its turned out pretty good until this problem came up but I guess when you run old equipment problems come with the territory.
