I'm going to look at this tractor it's an 88 diesel wide front with hydraulics the add said 1500 but they told me a 1000 on the phone it needs a battery and a front tire they said it hasn't ran since last year I thought I'd take a battery and see if itll start if it does is there any way to to see if the engine is sound and won't need work for awhile? I don't want to buy if I know or think it's gonna need work thanks

It don't look too bad for a grand, if it runs, I'd buy it. If the tires hold air, they look pretty good. It's had a engine update, probably a 1600 or 1650 engine, it has a Roosa Master pump, that's a good thing. Before trying to start it, pull the drain plugs from transmission and let water drain out and put the plug back in when you get oil coming out. Good luck! Chris

Ya,that pump was the first thing that caught my eye. If memory serves me right, wasn't this one advertised as a 77 in the first place?
But for $1000,I probably would have had it on my trailer by now if it wasn't already sold yesterday.

That engine is a 1650 engine. It also has the Robert Bosch injectors. Check the serial number when you get there. I can not read it in the picture.

Thanks everyone looks like it might follow me home I'll check the serial number when I get there. Yes rrlund it was advertised as a 77 but when I talked to the lady on the phone she said it was an 88. If I get it started how can I check the engine and make sure its sound because I'd like to work if I get it

Before you try to start it, check the oil in the hydraulic unit. Make sure it is at least on the dip stick before you try to start it. Also on the engine by the alternator, there will be a 5 digit number stamped there. Post that number here and the block casting numbers by the starter. J.

$1000 sounds like a fair price for that tractor as-is non-running with decent tires. You should have a firm deal on the price, or have it purchased before you try to start it. Sometimes the price goes up or the tractor is no longer for sale after it starts. Also, if you break something (like a stuck injector pump) did you just buy it?
