Air breather on 88?

Looking at a 51 oliver row crop 88. Serial number- 136193c88f It has an air breather on top of the hood. Is this something that has been added or is it factory? Haven't seen one with it before.

   The company offered the above hood air inlet as a package.   There is an instruction sheet for cutting the hole in the hood and installation.

Yes, we had one our 88. They added it during the years we ran a mounted corn picker on it. A few years ago, we put it back under the hood and patched the hole.

Just seen one on a 77, first one I've seen, asked my oliver friends they never seen any. chris

My employer was a firm believer in a Diesel tractors. After I started we had a few engines that flew apart. Oil changes and air cleaner service was not a scheduled item for several of those owners. After that any diesel got a precleaner package. We made up packages using the regular Oliver precleaner but we purchased the pipe up town and they worked very well. We put the grommet in the hole and they looked first class.
