Oliver 1855 with a 560 plow

Needless to say this go back a few year but if you went a few miles south of me 2-16's were just right for a super 88, go the same distance north of me and half of those customers had 4-14's behind a super 88. It depends on your conditions.

It is a heavy tractor 18.4 38 tires full of calcium, heavy cab, one set of wheel weights, slab weights in the front, I feel it has the weight just don't know about the hp

16" or 18" bottoms, how DEEP, and how FAST? 619 bottoms are designed to work best at about 4.5mph, 919 bottoms at about 6mph. Both at about 1/2 of cutting width.

Had a friend years ago and he got the 6 mph hard sell and bought it. He had soils ranging from sandy loam to hard clay with rocks. Long story short, after the first season the dealer offered to buy back the plow. At times he was spending more time replacing parts than plowing.

Third gear in normal conditions and maybe 2nd in tough conditions if you are talking 16's. My 1955 pulls 5x16's in forth gear with ease including some very steep hills in sandy soil. In clay, still forth on the level without much trouble. Clay and hilly is a third gear proposition.

If you are pulling 18's you are cutting another ten inches. But that's why Oliver gave you 18 speeds.

As a side note we used to pull the 5x16's with a 1650 4WD in third in easy conditions and second in tough conditions (yes it was a load but we plowed with it for 6 years before I bought the 1955). Unless you are plowing in really heavy clay, I would think the 1855 should do quite well.

Years ago when we plowed with OLIVER plows, pipe backbone, 5x16's with a 1800 A gasser, 1600 gasser and a 1650 direct injection diesel,. Dad always liked to plow at least 8 inches deep , 3rd with the 1800, 2-3rd with 1600, 3rd with 1650 - 3 speed , this is in north MO, and yes we have yeller clay and black dirt too. Now plow up terraces with 9190 DA and 588 white 5x20's.

I used to have a 1750 and I could pull an IH 700 5 bottom in clay ground and never had any problems. Corn ground or sod, hills or flat ground. Worked well. The guy I bought the plows from used to pull them with a narrow front 1650. I know the 1750 was putting out 96 hp on the dyno. You should be fine.
