Before I get everything buttoned up on my engine I
just want to double check that I'm doing the timing
right. Engine is set at TDC. Do I use the mark on
the front of the timing gear to match the distributor
gear or the rear of the timing gear. There is a mark
on both sides but also on different teeth. The picture
I posted is when lining it up from the front. Thanks
guys!

I don't have the book in front of me but he mag drive on the back of the governor should be parallel with I believe the top bolts on the housing. It is not supposed to be horizontal.

Actually you should be able to time it no matter where you put it. It just won't be factory. The wires I was given to put on the one I recently put together weren't long enough to arrange them like factory. I had to arrange then more like a fleetline. The governor didn't work and I had to shim it with a custom 0.100 washer in front of the thrust washer.

RT ( my two cents)

Thanks RT. If by chance you happen to be around your book let me know what it says. Trying to keep it all original, etc. if the mag drive is supposed to parallel with the top two bolts wouldn't it make it horizontal then?
