1550 diesel block cracks

Got 4 of 6 sleeves pulled and snapped some pics. Cracks between the cylinders were visible from the top with the head off, as expected, however, the cracks also go through the webbing below.

What say the folks who have been here before? I'm a little concerned about being able to get everything to seal up given the size and depth of these cracks. Also, added a photo of the block with head off still in tractor. I expected to see some slight protrusion of the sleeve above the block, but it was smooth with top of block, and pistons come all the way up. Does that seem right?

Previous owner/operator had insufficient antifreeze in the engine during too cold temps.   When water freezes and expands there is a lot of surface in the sides of he crankcase to push against and small amount of casting to hold it together.
Will happen in all brands of wet sleeve engines.

I can't see any cracks at the very bottom of the sleeve(where the 0-rings seat). If that area is not cracked, you may be OK. Cracks at the top are not a problem, usually. The head gasket seals it at the top.

You're right, there aren't any cracks at the bottom where the o-rings seat. However, if the sleeves don't protrude above the block, how does a person get comfortable that the head gasket will seal at the top?

Well if it was a larger Oliver engine I would remove the block have it cleaned, double check it for cracks at the bottom. If none are found I would get some shims and shim the liner. Since no shims were available for those engine you could have about 0.005-006 removed from the deck of the head and install the liners and see what your protrusion is. You may need to square up the counterbores with a boring bar or a counterbore tool to obtain the correct dimensions. Questions? J.
