Hydraulics problem Oliver 55

We have an old "55" that is used for mowing only. It's been working fine until today. Mowed a field (finish mower) & when I quit, the hydraulic arms won't lift. Checked oil level & it showed nothing on the dipstick. Added oil up to 'full' on dipstick, but can't get any response. What went wrong / whats going wrong? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

First question: Does your tractor have a an Oliver valve to operate a remote cylinder? Do you have a manual? If not if you take the pipe plug out of the little casting and attach a hose where the plug was and stick it in a bucket and start the tractor does the pump oil?

There's no remotes on this tractor. I'll try the hose suggestion. If nothing pumps out when tractor is started up, what's the next step?

TRY UNHOOKING THE MOWER AND THEN LIFT THE ARMS MANUALLY WHILE TRACTOR IS RUNNING AND THE 3PT. LEVER IS IN UP POS. IT MAY CATCH AND LIFT. ITS POSSIBLE THE CYL. INSIDE KINDA LOST ITS PRIME WITH AN AIR POCKET IN IT. I'VE DONE IT TO A COUPLE DIFFERENT TRACTORS AND WORKED .

If you can't see where the oil went, If there is a leak in the hydraulic system assembly, it may have dripped into your transmission. On a 55, the hydraulic assembly is mounted on the transmission cover as you know. Driving the tractor without oil in the hydraulic system will fry the hydraulic pump (very expensive to replace/rebuild). If you see hydraulic oil level keeps going down, stop the tractor and check integrity of the hydraulic system seals before you get internal damage.
