I'm having trouble getting the engine apart. I can't get the oil pump off or the cam shaft out or get the gear off the shaft. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would then assume the motor was stuck. As you have found the oil pump has to turn some to come out which means the cam shaft has to turn. You can't get to the bolts behind the gear with out taking the gear off or turning the cam shaft. This is common in this Hercules design and can be a problem. Is the crank out? Probably not because of the engine plate behind the cam gear. You must be patient and use penetrating oil on the cam bearings and the oil pump mounting hole. Every once in a while you can gently try to pry on the gear with a pinch bar or in the slots of the gear. at any rate you have to get the cam shaft to turn in the process you may or may not brake something unless your gentle.
