Oliver #4 Corn picker

There is a #4 Oliver corn picker for sale on craigslist in Columbus, Ohio for $750. Says it came off an Oliver 77 tractor.

I would like it but already have an Allis WD with 33 picker but if still around next month, who knows.

Here is the link......

It's been approximately 60 years since I operated one for my Dad my first year out of high school. Suggestion, try to find out if the tractor that it came off of had hydraulic lift or a mechanical power lift. Kick around in the weeds and take everything that has green paint on it. Brackets that bolt to the fender mounts on the axels carry most all the weight and would be hard to reproduce. It should be sitting on a rather extensive framework and not just laying on the ground otherwise you will need two loaders one on each side to get the tractor under it. Their should be a heavy gearbox that hooks to the PTO after you get the picker on the tractor. The handles that adjust the width of the snapping rolls on each side are an addition that Dad's picker did not have so it was built in the early 50s. Good Luck.

I had two of those things. One was on an 88 diesel when I bought it,then I bought a nicer one at the sale in Archbold for $30. I can't even imagine giving $750 for one.
I wonder what they sold for new?

About 10 years ago, I had one of those and it wasn't by choice. The local eccentric salvage man had an Oliver tractor in his yard that had a model 4 picker attached to it. I asked to buy the tractor and he said he would sell me the tractor, but I HAD to take the picker with it. (Ever hear of a junk man making that kind of a deal? Me either. Scrap steel must have been cheap at that time) I decided that I'd never use the picker, so I sold it to somebody on this group who came from Ohio to pick it up. The guy came with an Oliver 70 on the back of his truck and he drove it off his truck and we attached it to his tractor. He then drove the tractor/picker back on his truck and he took off.
I hope he got some good use out of it. I was afraid to ever use the picker because with all the moving chains and sprockets moving so close to my body that I figured I'd lose an appendage or two.

If you don't get that let me know I might run down and look at it I live in Crawford county and would love to find some Oliver stuff for my 77 I'm rebuilding
