Oliver 60 high oil pressure

That's a first, too much oil pressure!! The 60 should run between 10 & 15 lbs of oil pressure. The minimum would be 5. I would check with a good calibrated gauge.

(quoted from post at 16:26:29 05/13/15) I just got my 60 running and the brand new oil pressure gauge pegs the needle at all rpm levels. Any ideas?

Joe, my 77 stays on high all the time and I'm glad it does. I wouldn't worry about it. Chuck

My brother has an oliver 77 that's pegged the oil pressure gage for over 40 years that I can remember. Hot or cold, the second the engine fires, the oil pressure needle pegs on high, and stays there. It would be on the baler all day long, and peg the oil gauge idling. Good running tractor!

I bought a set of these made in India gauges from ebay for my 60RC. Oil pressure gauge would peg as soon as started and stay there, hot or cold. I swapped for another gauge (same manufacture) from another Oliver tractor. Gauge went to the center and stayed there until hot, then dropped off a bit. Pulled that out and tested with a high quality analog gauge. Cold oil pressure was around 20 psi, dropping to 15 psi when hot.
So it looks like these made in India gauges are all over the place in terms of calibration.
Also, make sure you still have the rod that goes through the oil filter, and that it is clean and free of obstruction. Years ago, I bought a Super 55 that was missing the rod. The PO had used silicon sealer to stop oil leak from the base of the filter, and had completely plugged the return orifice! I don't know how the motor lived but it still, today, runs like a watch.
