1655D engine overhaul

Have a 1655 D I've done a complete rebuild on. Everything new on cyl head. Has proper specs on valve protrusion. New sleeves and pistons. One piece pin bushings. 12pt rod bolts. New rod and main bearings.Injection pump rebuilt and new injectors. Bled fuel lines and it started quickly and easily. Let it run at about 1000rpm and checked everything out. Started to increase rpm's And I get a rattle at 1200 rpm's. Rechecked valve settings, checked pump timing, Injectors checked. No change. Pulled head off and the machinist thinks no.2 piston is hitting the head. So where do I go from here? Wonder if a OEM head gasket would be thicker than the aftermarket one.

I would rather suspect a bad injector.
Head/ piston contact should be tell tale(visible), if it is then you may want to check the rod big end cap bolts for coming loose(maybe you forgot to torque them?)

did you have them rods redone @ shop , did they bore them pins center to center or just hone them to fit ? that will effect overall rod length , im have similar issues now with a 310 thats been sufurced to much , you can just turn some of the piston top off if your sure its hitting , but only one cyl. would have me concerned , measure how much the pistons protude above deck ( all of them ) if machine work is done right they should be within a couple thousands of each other , then measure the old gasket at sealing ring it is already crushed to torque , see if piston will protude above that ring , you will need some extra clearance for exspantion , ill guess about .010 , check to see if the valve releafs in piston are the same depth , is valve protution all the same on all 6 cyls. ? do some measuring & you should find the problem
